Cape Cod is famous for many things. Its extremely high rate of domestic violence is, unfortunately, one of them. Independence House is the only comprehensive resource on Cape Cod providing a full range of services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and their children. We help individuals reestablish lives free of fear and violence. We believe individuals have the ability to make the best decisions for themselves and for their family. We guide them in the use of the courts, financial and social services, housing and other community resources that are appropriate for each circumstance. Our philosophy of self-help and self-determination helps individuals initiate change, make informed decisions and attain short and long-term goals, and so develop strengths and self-confidence that remain long after our direct services have ended. Services are free and confidential to all people regardless of race, origin, religion, age, income, marital status, lifestyle or sexual orientation. Individuals are not required to press charges to receive services. Independence House is supported by full and part time staff and many dedicated volunteers.

WECAN offers support for Cape women. Call WECAN to set up an appointment to speak with a counselor about the programs. All services are offered free of charge. Donations are gratefully accepted.
Some of the programs offered include:
Options: Career counseling, advocacy and referral program for women in transition.
Pathmakers:
This mutual mentoring program empowers women in transition by offering one-on-one mentor relation-ships, peer support and community building. Women make a ten month commitment to work on life goals.
Legal Clinics:
Women can take advantage of a free half-hour session with a lawyer in our once-a-month legal clinic.
Divorce Support Group:
A weekly facilitated support group for women going through the divorce process.
Computer Classes:
Learn basic computer skills.
