Packed in a Trunk

I've had the privilege of living with a Provincetown artist for the past fifty years of my life.
She died when I was only three, but her paintings hung on the walls of the house where I grew up. They now hang in my home here in the Hollywood Hills, a good 3,000 miles away from where she first set up her easel on the Provincetown beach almost a hundred years ago.
You've never heard of Edith Lake Wilkinson. At the age of 57 she was committed to an asylum. Her art, along with all her worldly possessions, was packed up in a couple of trunks and shipped off to her sole surviving relative, a nephew in West Virginia.
Edith was never heard from again. The trunks sat in an attic for the next 40 years, shut tight and collecting dust.
And then my mother showed up.

My name is Anhay Stewart and I am an artist.
I was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, a bright country with white sand and blue seas. A typical scene from my country is full of vibrant, rich colors and warm tropical vibes. The Dominican Republic is a place that thrives in the path of the sun, with its warm climate and lush landscape.
Since I was a child, I've always been interested in arts and crafts. My mother was a teacher who always encouraged me to have a very solid education and taught good values. I was provided with many art supplies such as watercolors, sketch pads and colored pencils.
From a very young age, nature inspired me. I grew up always outdoors, climbing trees, running down to the river, and using my imagination with only my environment around me.
The HyArts Cultural District nurtures and celebrates the creativity and talent of established and emerging Cape Cod artists.

SRD Gallery is seeking submissions to a juried exhibition featuring Vessels, running from February 1 through 22. The exhibit will feature an opening reception on Friday, February 1st, from 5:00 to 8:00.
Submission dates: Thursday Jan 17 and Friday Jan 18 from 9 to 5
Call for Artists: THE EPITOME OF AN IMAGE: An Exhibition of Photography & Photorealism
SRD Gallery is seeking submissions to a juried exhibition featuring photography, artworks containing photography, and paintings in the style of photorealism, running from March 1 through 22. The exhibit will feature an opening reception on Friday, March 1st, from 5:00 to 8:00.
